Cooperative Research Australia today welcomed the announcement by Minister for Industry and Science, the Hon Ed Husic MP, of twenty-four new Cooperative Research Centre Projects.
The new CRC-Ps have been funded under Round 14 of the Cooperative Research Centres Projects as part of the Cooperative Research Centres Program.
They represent a collective investment of almost $122 million, with $50 million in Australian Government funding leveraging investment from both industry and research institutions.
“Industry-led cooperative research enabled through the Cooperative Research Centres Program is an Australian success story, translating research into action and generating enormous benefit,” said Cooperative Research Australia CEO Jane O’Dwyer.
“Cooperative Research Centres Projects support companies working to commercialise cutting-edge ideas in collaboration with researchers and innovators to create new products, jobs and builds Australian innovation capacity.
“These latest funded projects are aligned to the National Reconstruction Fund priority areas and will provide a great framework for developing highly productive cooperative partnerships whilst making the most of the world-leading research know-how that we find in our research institutions.
“A huge congratulations must go to all of the CRC-P participants and partners. It is a highly competitive program, and all 24 of those who have been funded are projects that will make a real difference.
They are an extraordinary range of projects, including advanced breeding technology that looks to deliver allergen safe eggs to those suffering severe egg allergies, recycling of composite wind turbine blades for circular economy, developing sustainable healthcare packaging (SHP) products from using biodegradable polymer polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA)s such as canola oil to replace petroleum-based plastics, and The Neonav: which will deliver a device for safer newborn care.
The twenty-four new CRC-Ps bring the total number of Cooperative Research Centres Projects since the establishment of the program to 232.
