Two scholarship opportunities related to Mine Electrification are available at the Future Battery Industries (FBI) CRC:

Mine Electrification – Electric Mobile Fleet Operation

In this PhD project, we want to assess mobile fleet operations at two specific mine sites. This includes data collection and analysis of fleet operations. This will be followed by the development of a model that converts existing diesel fleet operations to a battery-supported fleet scenario. Finally, a technology selection, sizing and scheduling system will be developed for the continuous operation of the proposed BEV fleet using existing and emerging market technologies.

Mine Electrification – Energy and Storage Infrastructure Design

In this PhD project, we want to design the backbone energy and storage infrastructure required for the 24/7 operation of a BEV mobile fleet considering the unique environmental and operational conditions of two actual mine sites, redundancy and reliability requirements. In addition, the project will develop an optimal framework for technology selection, sizing and scheduling of hybrid energy systems. Various options from grid connection reinforcement, renewable energy sources and different storage technologies will be considered in the technology selection study.
