Australian Forest and Wood Innovations – Board Chair

The University of Tasmania will host a new national research institute, Australian Forest and Wood Innovations (AFWI).  AFWI will drive uplift in vital, transformative national forestry research, development and engagement (RD&E), coordinating and delivering short-, mid-, and long-term Australian-made solutions to national challenges such as: mitigating climate change; decarbonising the economy; increasing Australia’s long term domestic wood supply; and creation of new innovative wood and bioproducts.

Please note, while the location states Launceston, this is due to the headquarters for the Institute being based in Launceston. The Board role can be fulfilled from any location in Australia, with occasional travel to Launceston for Board meetings.

About the role: Critical to the success of AFWI – The Independent Board Chair will oversee all AFWI activities in supporting to achieve the goals of the University of Tasmania’s Australian Forest and Wood Innovations (AFWI), a program funded through $101.5m of Federal Government support with co-funding from UTAS and research, state government and industry stakeholders.
